I’m a big fan of garlic

Today we would like to introduce you to Lara, a girl from Mallorca who gives the best of her behind the stove of Lara’s easy cooking, a cooking blog in which you will find recipes as tasty as easy to prepare.

We’ve had a conversation with her and she has confessed her passion for garlic “that poor underestimated ingredient” so we couldn’t resist asking her to create a recipe having garlic as the main ingredient, and there you go: Grilled garlic butter, Lara’s style. Looking at the photos it seems a difficult task not to try it…

Where does your passion for cooking come from?

Well, I’ve always enjoyed cooking, I remember helping my grandmother to prepare spongy cakes and stews and I loved the smell coming out of the oven.

Where do you get the inspiration for your recipes?

The truth is I try to get inspiration from everything around me; my favourite chefs and products that are basic and locally produced, that are part of our land.

How did you come up with the idea of starting a food blog?

The idea of starting the blog was more my husband’s than mine. He was tired of watching the house full of notes everywhere and the fridge door looking like a mosaic with so many handwritten notes of recipes. So he advised me to organize all my recipes in a blog and share them with everybody.  And the truth is that I don’t regret it at all, it’s the best experience I’ve had.

What advice would you give to those who say that cooking is not as easy as it seems?

I would tell them that good cooking, the kind you enjoy cooking and giving the best of you is not difficult, and they shouldn’t give up, because cooking is incredibly satisfying. And the most important thing is that they shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes in the recipes because nobody can teach you to cook and get your own style, you are your own teacher and you learn from the mistakes you make.

And now tell us about the importance of garlic in your recipes, is it an important ingredient?

The truth is that the poor garlic is a bit underestimated but me, being from Mallorca, I’m a big fan of garlic because in Mallorca we use it a lot. In stews, in the “Pan cuit” soup, and of course in our famous aioli. We even prepare toasted bread slices with some olive oil and we rub garlic on it. A true mallorquin cannot cook without a string of garlic on the table!

What’s your favourite way of preparing it?

My favourite recipe among all the recipes I know is aioli, because it goes well with everything, whether it’s escargots Mallorca style or a delicious Spanish potato omelette. I love how versatile it is!
